Syena (also Shyena or Shyen) is Sanskrit श्येन for the divine hawk identified with Agni, who ascends to heaven to bring back soma (nectar) to be used for rejuvenating and revitalizing all things that exist on earth. Our mission at Syena Wellness is to provide services to help you find your soma - to rejuvenate and revitalize body, mind and soul.
Syena Wellness was founded by Renee Sirulnik, PTA, LMT out of her love and passion of caring for others through various forms of bodywork. Renee is licensed in the State of Maryland as a Physical Therapist Assistant and Licensed Massage Therapist. She is also a HeartMath Certified Practitioner (breathwork), Reiki Master, and registered yoga teacher. Renee is currently studying the beautiful art of sacred Lomi Lomi massage - the indigenous Hawaiian healing practice that was originally performed in Temple by Kahunas (shaman).
Renee began her career in bodywork as a Physical Therapist Assistant with a passion for anatomy, physical rehabilitation, and hands-on manual therapy. She worked in clinics that emphasized a full body, manual based PT approach. Renee saw the powerful healing effects of bodywork and the benefits of massage. She was inspired to continue her career as a Licensed Massage Therapist in order to combine her love of soft-tissue work, energy work, breathing, and knowledge of anatomy and rehabilitation rolled into one. Renee offers sessions that are unique to each client combining her knowledge of restoring the nervous system, posture and muscular imbalances with breathwork, energy points and meridians, sound and other modalities such as cupping and kinesiology taping, restoring balance to one's center through traditional Maya Abdominal Massage and visceral manipulation.
While grounded in solid clinical skills and medical knowledge, Renee also relies on ancient and indigenous knowledge to offer an intuitive approach to full body and soul wellness. With a strong belief in movement as therapy ("motion is lotion"), Renee enjoys hiking, swimming, cold/ice plunges, yoga, herbal wildcrafting, studying indigenous practices and arts. Renee Is a practicing member of the Native American church regularly attending Inipis (sweat lodge) and other ceremonies.
